Shopian, Jun 06 (KNO): The residents of Gund Darvesh village in south Kashmir's Shopian district are up in arms against the PDD for installing a transformer along a road which they say poses a threat to their lives. They said the electric transformer has been installed close to the ground along a road making it dangerous as short circuits near the transformer are common. “The transformer has been installed very close to the ground with low-lying wires, thereby posing a grave threat to lives of people, particularly children,” Mubarak Ahmad, a local, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He said that a school is also close to the transformer and the parents have to accompany their children. “We have pointed this out to the PDD officials several times, but nothing has been done,” said Aamir Ahmad. The maximum threat looms large over the children who while going to school and playing do not pay attention towards the non-barricaded transformer and can come in contact with the non-insulated live wires, he said, adding that this transformer has naked wire and conductors, which are easily accessible by the human beings and children can unknowingly touch it “This transformer can prove fatal anytime as it is close to the road and ground from where hundreds of people pass through,” Amir added. The residents have requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter at the earliest so as to prevent any eventuality. Meanwhile, an official of the PDD said he will seek a report from the ground staff in this regard. “All possible steps for the safety of locals will be taken,” he assured—(KNO)
